Guess Who's Turning 100?
As DeVroomen approaches its 100th Anniversary in 2025, DeVroomen maintains its prominent role in importing flower bulbs and perennials throughout the US.
Where it all started
Born into a family of bulb growers, Jac. Th. DeVroomen followed in his family’s footstep when he founded DeVroomen in 1925. DeVroomen, started as a small family-owned business with a passion for horticulture. In 1949, with the help of his three sons, Hugo, Ben and Dick the DeVroomen family business continued to grow and make a name for itself in the bulb industry. By the early 1960’s subsidiaries were established in the U.S. and Canada. By continuing to invest and enhancing their product line DeVroomen was able to ship its first bare root perennial order in temperature controlled containers in 1980. Having established a strong presence by catering to the diverse needs of gardening enthusiasts across America, DeVroomen was able to move into a 10,000 square ft. warehouse in Russel IL in the mid 80’s. This allowed DeVroomen to improve and expand all three companies leading to the purchase of an Independent Garden Center Line, Simple Pleasures in 2014. With this acquisition DeVroomen continued its growth and in 2016 moved to an 80,000 square ft. temperature controlled warehouse in Gurnee, IL.
